Just warming up the tires before I go on.

Alright.
So it would appear that I’m about to lose my job. Boss called me today, gave me a heads up for me to “think it over the long weekend”. Told me that there were budget cuts, and chances are my position is a goner. They claim they are pushing to keep things, but less than half a chance I can stay on.
HR called me today and offered me some postings with other teams and setting me up to interview with them... and I hate job interviews. Especially not after not having to do them so many years, but doesn’t look like I have a choice now.
Not seeing this as a dead end just yet, just... inconvenient. I’m in the middle of sorting out my mortgage renewal and losing my job can’t look good on that, lol. But maybe like my friend was saying, I’ve been on long enough, I just needed this kick for me to finally move elsewhere.

Update : Thought I’d give a little update on the situation. HR sent me some postings for my same post on other teams. I found one more in the system that wasn’t a keyword match for HR but I was more interested in and probably better for my career long run. Was arranged one interview yesterday with one of the managers for the job from HR, and one today for the one I picked. Having not been in interview for so long, it sent me into a panic attack today and I started slurring a bit. I guess I was stressing to find relatable experiences, since my resume wasn’t directly translatable so I had to explain a lot of things. Not sure though, I didn’t panic much yesterday.
Fingers crossed... but I’m a bit burnt out to apply for more jobs today, even though I should carry on. It’s really wearing me down though.

Update 2:
And it’s a done deal. Transition didn’t go through,
package received, I’m officially unemployed. Anyone hiring a senior QA or intermediate DevOps role in the GTA?

Good luck wherever you end up

Crappy news, but nice to get a heads up- and they sound like they are trying to be helpful setting you up with interviews.
Look at it as a chance for something new.

Damn man, good luck. I can 100% relate. Got word today that I may be in a similar situation (though without the soft landing of another department).

Thought about it... but the Toronto show has become kind of boring. We never get major releases, even Montreal does.

Seems like a lotta folks on here are having career transitions lately...

Well I wouldn’t exactly call it a “soft landing” just yet. The postings are public so I’m sure I’m competing against people outside as well.

Well in some ways mine should’ve happened a long time ago, but I kept procrastinating on it, and now I’m forced to.

That sucks. But at least they gave you a heads-up and are helping with transitions. When I experienced layoffs there was no notice. Just show up on a friday before Christmas and get told the whole team is laid off.
Best of luck with finding a good place to move on to.

Yeah. Last time when a guy on our team got fired, he didn’t know about it, in fact none of us did. We thought he went to the washroom , but then afterwards our boss called an emergency meeting, and we were told so.

Interviewing sucks, but it’s necessary - been doing quite a bit of it myself lately.
Sounds like they’d like to keep you, so that’s good. Hopefully you can find something you like internally. And you can always continue to interview elsewhere - good luck!

That sucks, seems like a couple pf folks here loosing their jobs. I went through it back in august and it gave me the push i needed to move to another state and start things over. Good luck on your hunt.

I’m just down on luck these few years when it comes to getting through screening. I haven’t had one for that long.
No one to blame though, I got comfortable and now I got stuck. That’s why I want this second one, I need this path change so I have some more interesting things to write and get through.
I learnt my lesson hard this time.

Good luck man.
I can relate on the mirage worries. The biggest problem with losing my job, and my current job, is that it’s not good to help with getting a loan, and we still want to buy another house this year, either an investment property, or something we can fix up and movie into.
Hopefully you can just move within your company and not have a black spot on your employment record

On the bright side I think I did get through the mortgage situation though. They just need to make the phone call and get the letter confirmed. Turns out I was or HR gave them the wrong number to call.
No way I’m able to get a mortgage when being freshly laid off.

Eek, good luck with everytbing.
I don’t want to mom you so feel free to ignore me, but the Ask A Manager blog has been a huge help for resume/interview tips, both when I was interviewing to hire people and then preparing to quit. (Formatting isn’t working for me to link, it’s just askamanager.org)

Good luck again! Even though it’s a repost of the same post I already commented on
last week, glad you’re making progress.

Good luck! If it’s been too long this is a chance for you to sharpen up your game ...maybe that’s a silver lining.

Damn, that sucks man. I’ve been there. Keep your head up, and hit Indeed like a chicken on speed.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you’ll land in greener pastures before too long. Good luck!

Not much else to say other than I’m sorry and that sucks. Hopefully you got a halfway- decent severance package.

Good luck in your search. They say technical positions are in demand, so you should land on your feet in short order.

I’m actually thinking of hitting pause there for a bit. For the past few years I’ve been sending resumes and I’ve been yielding less and less. I should make use of some career counselling.
The past 2 weeks I’ve been revisiti ng some of my skill set a bit and seems like I could use some work promoting it and actually making use (that’s how I came up with trying to pursue DevOps) , so I think the counselling could help there than me firing targets and missing.
